I shot another time lapse, this time of the metalwork.

The little piece up at the firewall took longer than the rest of the floor. Basically every time you see the piece disappear, I dropped it through the floor.

Floor is assembled! Now it just needs about 6 hours of zap... zap... zap... and another 4 hours of smoothing out.

That’s the plan. I’m hoping to have it at least drivable for the big car show/cruise in CDA on June 26th/27th.

I think the Rubicon is out of the question for this year, sad to say. I just don’t want to risk a trip like that with an untested rig. Maybe I should go ahead and start the “Rubicon 2021” thread.

Same here with new rig. I'll commit to 2021. Maybe Snake P. can be talked into it with ample prep/ test time.

The seat is open to the highest bidder... :sneak:

On second thought, that should be plenty of time for you to get your new one prepped and trail-ready!

I got the pieces removed and bolted together on the bench to begin the long, slow, boring welding process.

When I glance at that photo out of the corner of my eye, it looks like the chest piece to a suit of armor. Given your skills are off the chart, you must have been an armorer/blacksmith in some past life. It's no fair you've had centuries of practice.

Yup. 3-piece. I’ll be drilling and tapping into the floor for M6 button-head screws. I’m waiting to do that step till after everything is done moving from heat.

    Another boring time lapse. :coffee:
Cleaning out the corners with a die grinder is as fun as... well, let’s just say the similarities to dental work are not lost on me.

The floor pieces are as done as I’m going to make them. I’m not going to spend weeks on making a floor perfect just to have it dented up the first time I throw some logging chain in there. Pretty from 5 feet was the goal. (y)

That's a work of art. You sort of dressed like a dental assistant as well. The face shield, the blue glove...
