Cut CJ fenders?

Has anybody "sectioned" the front edge of a CJ fender? I am putting new fenders on my '67 since my old ones were rotten and used for brakes by the PO. I never liked how the front lip came down 5"and comes forward so far. To me the front end looks like a squirrel with a mouth full of nuts. I am considering removing about 3" from the middle of front edge, moving the body line up. Anybody ever seen it done?

I don't want to flat fender it, just clean up the stock lines a bit...

Lots of folks here have. Maybe someone here will post some pictures of how they did it to help you out.

Go to page 93 in the " show your jeep" located at the top sticky of this forum, very nice example of what you seek.;)

I got my fenders from Posimoto (John). He did a great job on them. Not the best pics.

That's my old 53 M38A1, had to cut the fenders to handle the 37s. I didn't want to just do a straight cut, and wanted to preserve some of the original look. We did a "pie-cut" of the original front lip, moved the edges up to intersect the horizontal line, removed the excess material, and welded the pieces back together. Some of the pieces had to be rolled to match the curve.
64pete, where are you located? If you're close - come by and I can either draw it out or cut it for you. If you're not - send me a pm and I can send you step by step instructions.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This was a fun project, even more fun now that it's on the road.

Wow, that looks like an amazing project p38L5! I don't know how I missed that one! Would you care to give any more details on the project, you mentioned that you are running 37's? Did you stretch the body at all?

edit: I went to page 92 of the Show your Jeep thread, and saw the specifics. Nice job!!!

I am just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. That silver is incredible! I was thinking of leaving some of the curve down but looking at yours, they may end up straight. Awesome job!
