I bought an SM420 adapted to what was advertised as a Dana 300, but turned out to be a Dana 20. I'm okay with that though. Here's the thing: my current setup uses a slip yoke eliminator and the combo I just bought is stock. As I understand it, installing the SYE kit involves swapping the output shaft (I bought the Jeep this way). I know the case in the Jeep now is good, so I'm thinking the easiest thing to do is swap cases. Is it just a matter of unbolting/bolting or is there more to it? If it matters, the case in the Jeep now is the "J" shift pattern type. Thanks!

Maybe you should post a picture of what you have.

I'm out of town and only have my phone right now, but I'll try to get a picture up...

SYE on what transfer case? The CJ never had a slip yoke. AFAIK the geared Dana transfer cases never used a slip yoke. The "J" or "U" shifter was never used in a CJ - only the Jeepster and Wagoneer/J-truck.

You sure you're identifying these parts right? All the chain-driven transfer cases that might use a slip yoke are a different bolt pattern from the Dana 20 or Dana 18 and are 100% not bolt-on compatible.

Also, it's very unlikely that you can swap transmissions without changing the lengths of your drive shafts.
