Bottom Mount Wiper Parking

I have a 1969 with the flat top glass but bottom mount wipers. They park outward and move opposite directions. Is this mormal?

I am fixing the rusty windshield frame which appears to not have been touched since new so I assume they were always this way...

 

Not normal. The wipers should move parallel to each other and in tandem. They should both park towards the passenger side iirc.

Are they supposed to "park"? I think mine stop where the switch is turned off.

 

sounds like the passenger side pivot is on top instead of being on bottom . pull inspection plug and take a look . I agree with others they park to right

 

Yes. They are supposed to continue until the circuit is broken by a park switch in the motor. The park switch and the on switch are in parallel, so both have to be open for the motor to stop. The park switch only goes open at the park position.

Learned seething new today. Double checked tonight and mine park where ever you turn off the knob. Something I'll have to fix when I have nothing else to do.

 

Usually the carbon brush in the motor sticks in the holder or the spring that holds tension on the brush loses tension not allowing a good connection making the park function inoperable. Others have asked me how to fix this problem in another similar post recently but Ive been in the process if moving and have had no time to do so. I will say there is a separate brush for the park function. If you disassemble the motor and follow the contact board circuits it should become fairly apparent what I'm referring to.
