Transfer case drive gear interchange question

I finally found a good T14, but it came from a Commando so it has a 26t transfer case drive gear and I need a 29t for my Dana 18. Does anyone know if the drive gear off of my T86 will work on the 14? I have a FSM but it doesn't assign part numbers.

  2. Did you count 26 teeth on the bull gear? Commando w/V6 should be 10sp.

Yes, it is a 10 spline so I guess I am good there, but I did count 26t. It came with a dana 20. Tried searching and usually I would just pull mine and compare but trying to save some time and get everything I need before teardown.

  4. Sounds like you got it figured out, pop your bull gear on and go :)

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    Better to be cautious...
I don't recall if you can mix the D18 and D20 gears
Tooth count might be correct, but pitch or angle of the teeth could be different between the two gears.
Try Novak's web site; there should be a good gear comparison chart there somewhere that will show the tooth counts and Dana Corp gear numbers and their compatability.

    EDIT: Here ya go:

    nickmil In mothballs.

T-86 is 6 spline and T-14 is 10 spline, so no, they won't interchange.

So all I need is to find a 29t ten spline bull gear and I should be good?

Yes, or else you might consider installing a ten spline 29 tooth Warn overdrive.

Whew OD might be a little too much $$ for me. V6 does pretty good without it anyways. Looks like I will be on the hunt for that 29t gear

I believe you need a gear marked 18-8-50, 29T x 10 spline. I may have one I can part with but wontwbe home to verify until early next week. Will contact then.

    Good evening.
