Wiper motor question?

Hey everyone, I could use some advice on my 1968 electric top mounted 2 speed bosch wipers, Im sure they are the stock wiper motors. I rewired with 4 conductor cable to 1st motor and jumpered over to pass motor, switch is ground well, stock switch appears to be double pole double throw??. Wipers turn on and off, run in slow and fast... its the park thing, they will not swipe back to top of windshield. I do have HOT 12v from run of ign to wiper switch. Its terminated to the red (park) lead to wipers??? Plus wiper feed cable and switch well grounded!

I have to "time" my wipers position I want them in when I flick the switch to off...

 

We went through a lengthy discussion about these American Bosch motors and switches a couple a years ago. Can't remember if it ever got resolved or not. American Bosch has several diff motors as well as various switches that will and will-not work with the park capability. Maybe someone here has your same set-up and can shed some light on problem.

 

Thought the '68 started the bottom of the windshield mount for the wipers?

 

My 66' has the bottom mount windshield wipers, but I'm sure one of the PO's swapped it on at some point. It's certainly not my highest priority BUT it would be nice to know how/what I need to do to get them to "PARK" themselves...

 

sorry nothing to add to the OP,

often people will switch to bottom mounted wipers to be able to see better. Your 66 would of had top mounted from the factory.

Can you give us a model no from one of your motors? It might help.

 

Mines a 69 with bottom mounted motor, same problem though, I have to time the stop.

 

Here is the information I took off my 67 CJ6 when I took it apart. Found a NOS Switch on eBay (Crown also has a re-pop) and had Walcks build me a new harness from the old one. They parked when I took them apart using a simple toggle on/off switch tied to the hi speed, so expect it will work when I put it back together. Will let you know in a month or two. Hope this helps.

Would love to have some of those OEM style motors ... anyone know where to get those?

So, do the two motors keep synchronization with each other, or is one a little faster than the other?
I used to run the same bosch motors on my '66. What I found is that each one has a park switch internally. If you try and shut them off when they are out of synch, power feeds back from the lagging motor to the motor that just tried to park and it starts another wipe cycle.
I found I could just wait a few moments until both motors were close to synch, approaching the end of the wipe cycle then shut off the switch. Both would then park.

Mine are not synchronized, but close when I did the trial before I took it a part. not sure how they parked.....

 

Thanks for all replies everyone, helpful info! Yes i guess the leading motor would back feed onto the lagging motor... so no harm in terminating a diode. Also has anyone jumpered the front parking lamps circuit at the headlight switch to be energized while headlights are on.... that one had me at a loss! Awesome info on this site!! It must be possible just what terminal are common to each other at switch?

If you put your park light wire on the same terminal as the tail lights they stay on when you pull on the headlights.

 

Update, I received a question re on this thread and when I looked at it, there is a mistake in the diagram. Here is where I am at with the wiring, Comments?



Here is the Park Circuit.

 

Received this information a fellow Member who has an original switch.

"I just put an ohmmeter on my switch terminals and got the following results:

- When the switch is in the On position, the two terminals with the red primary motor power wires, as well as the terminal with the brown wire (probably park), all connect to the 12v power input terminal, which has the bluish-white wire plugged into it.

- When the switch is in the Off position, the terminals with the red wires are disconnected from the 12v power input terminal, but the terminal with the brown wire is still connected to the power input."
