Hi Guys,I am thinking of trying to convert a civilian style Donaldson oil bath air filter to a paper style filter,I have seen the military style filter conversion, that is quite straight forward, but with the Donaldson there isn't a good flat surface to put one end of the filter, just wondering if anyone has any success with this type of conversion......thanks Jim

    Welcome to the site :)

This subject comes up a few times a year here, if you're interested in seeing what's been discussed before you can search on "oil bath", that will bring up most of the threads.

Long story short- there's no easy way to do this- the Donaldson just isn't made to come apart & if you persevere & do get the inner element out then there's no stock paper filter that fits neatly (I['ve always suspected a shop vac filter might do the job ).

A lot of folks think the oilbath is actually better than a plain paper element, they're a bit more work to service but they do work quite well.

I have a 59 cj5. I cut the bottom of the inner filter off ( part that holds the wore mesh in place) then pulled theesh out. A cheap cone style filter fits in there pretty snug. I'm not on a computer but I can post pic in a day or 2 if interested
