Cool thanks. I'm really looking forward to doing this conversion.

CS036R or CS037R depending on how much height you want or how heavy the jeep is. Both springs have the same rate but the CS037R has a 3/4" less arch.

They both have the same rate but one has more arch? Hmm, I'll have to mull that one over. I don't think I'd want a "heavy duty" spring with the same spring rate as the "light duty" spring.

Where you go wrong is quoting "heavy duty" and "light duty". No such distinction with OME springs. It's all load based. I.E. "heavy load", "light load". Depending on the weight of your vehicle and where that weight is located on the vehicle you may have a combination of them. Usually front to back. In this case more arch will carry more weight at the specified ride height of 2" which is why the CS036R is the "heavy load" spring. Make more sense? It's tougher to guess correctly when you are using the leafs in a non stock application but Wrangler applications are pretty forgiving when it comes to picking springs. When you want a good ride AND proper weight carrying capacity, the more research the better.

Scott has the CS014F in the front which has a lighter spring rate than the other two because it has one less leaf. It's arched more but softer so compresses more with the weight of his winch and as he has found doesn't support it as well as he would like.

I have the predecessor to the CS036R (OMEJ1R ) spring with an add a-leaf in my flatfender. Have since 2005 and the ride, even with an add a leaf, is far better than stock could ever dream of being.

Interesting. Like I said, I'll have to think on it a bit. I can't see why you would want a spring rate to stay the same as your vehicle gets heavier. I guess those engineers at OME have put a lot more thought into this than me.
I've looked at buying OME springs twice before. Once for my YJ, I ended up with RE springs with one leaf removed. And once for my TJ, I ended up with BDS coils on this one.

Any word on your springs yet. I have started to install my rocky road kit. The rear hangers that I cut needed quite a bit of grinding.. Do yours also require that. The end result was a good fit though.

Finally received the add-leaf springs today.

They were fairly easy to install.

I took it for a drive to see how they work. It rides great. I even have more lift in the front.

Good deal, Scott. Looks right. Seems to sit pretty level.

Got the rear suspension in mine last week. They are 5" BDS springs run spring under. The fronts will be done next week. I am also using the rocky road kit.

Looks great Scott! I wan't to do this swap eventually but I think I'll be doing an axle swap at the same time.

Finally tested out the springs this weekend. These springs have a soft ride. Upon full flex. I don't get the tires hitting the fenders any more. I also noticed that it's very stable down the freeway.

I mounted my GoPro Camera to the frame to show you the view of how they work.

Here's another that better shows it at a good flex. I had to edit this video. I got mud all over the lens through the last half the video.

Took the Jeep to Evans Creek for a extreme run. I found the rear shocks are bottoming out. Not good. I seem to remember that '64 CJ5 rear shocks are shorter then intermediate shocks, but I can't remember how much. Anyone know how much?

    Scott,

How did you find Rocky Road to deal with? I had some problems with them several years ago (2005), but I like their product lineup so I am kinda torn.

    Thanks

If you have time a few questions Scott. Just looking over what you did with the suspension upgrade. Nice! I also have been eyeing the upgrade from Rocky. What year is your jeep? I have a similar steering conversion on my 67 and see what you did there. But did you have any fit problems with the driver side front, Rear spring mouth getting around the brake master cylinder? My Brakes are all stock but looks like the size of the kits mounts will be very tight if not a bigger problem?

My Jeep is a 64 M38a1. The only problem I had was my shackle reversal. I had to remove this to go to the CJ style. So glad I did. It is so much more safer then before.
