    Hello folks
I was wondering I have seen some 1955 CJ 5 's with the jeep label on the sides in a gray color. Did this come form the factory this way?
    Thanks for the help

I have a realated question . Whats the best way to paint the jeep logo and make it look like a factory job? I was thinking about wetting cloth with paint and pressing it againts the letters will that work? Is there a better way to do it? TIA
BTW I tried bushing them on but I wasnt crazy how they turned out.

I think last time we discussed this the concensus was a roller, that left fuzzy edges though. Not bad but not crisp.

The best way i found was take a ink roller , your local print shop or school might have one?If not take a peice of 5/16" id hose and slide a 3/8" dowel threw it so you can hold it ,then roll over the letters.Don't try Sparkys ideai R)

I would think it would need to be pad printed. Rubber mounted to wood, put an even coat of paint on rubber then pressed against the Letters.<<<Theory>>

I'm sure that would work too

It wouldn't force too much paint down the side leaving it uneven?

I guess if you were carefull and didn't press too hard maybe.

I'd think a sponge roller would work. If you're painting the Jeep, you might try it out before you strip the existing paint or while the body is in primer. I watched the body man do this a couple of times, and he used a plain nap roller IIRC, like used for house paint. He could do it free-hand and it came out near as good as factory. The factory letters had stippley edges too.

im going to mask the area off and spray the paint on. but then again i am going with that color shifting paint on my lettering. dont ask why, i just want something a little different.

Another idea - automotive paint stores sometimes have ads from guys that can do pinstriping;or ask at the counter. Just hire someone to paint the letters - should be fast and fairly cheap. We had a guy who would come around and pinstripe a couple Jeeps on the lot - only charged $50 or so each (1973 dollars) and it looked sharp. He could do the whole job while the Jeep sat on the lot.

The Willys lettering on the hood of the race Jeep I outlined the lettering the way I wanted with a Sharpie marker then used black Testors model paint and filled in. Turned out decent and was very cheap. Can easily touch up as needed also. Nickmil.

Here's a thought....make a stencil out of cardboard or light plastic and tape in place and paint the letters.

I could just cut out a self adhesive vinyl stencil using the same fromat as the vinyl letters. Just in reverse.

im going to make the stencils for my jeep. even make them big enough so you can use spraypaint. that reminds me when i was at the craft store today i should have bought some stencil plastic.
