Anybody out there care to share how they routed the cable to a rear Ox locker. I'm searching for a good place to mount the shifter and path for the cable. Mostly interested in how the cable transitions from the frame to the axle to allow for suspension travel.

    John,
I let my cable loop upward toward the passenger side and then up to the crossmember above the axle. I clamped it there before routing it forward above the transfer case. My shifter is on the transmission floor pan to the left of the TC shifters. I'll get some pics comin...

Thanks Mike. I may mount my shifter off the driver side seat frame. Looking for a good way through the tub to keep the cable as straight as possible.

Ya - lazy loop with both my cables coming through the floor at the tranny tunnel. My shifters are mounted between the seats right now on the full seat frame I run across the cage.

Thanks Chuck. I'm having a hard time visualizing how to leave enough slack in the cable between it's last anchor point and the axle, to allow for suspension travel, yet not have something that can get snagged by flotsam on the trail. I haven't ordered the cable yet as I want to get the shifter mounted and try to plan a cable route that I can measure for length.

Don't worry Steve, I haven't forgotten about you. I'm hoping to get the Ox in the new housing next week.
Here it is before I installed it.

  8. Hey Posi, when you get it routed could you post a couple pics? I'm getting an Ox in my new rear and would like to see what you end up with.

I ran the line along the axle and then along the inside of the frame. I'll try to get some pics when I get home this weekend if you want.

Here's some pics of how I ran the cable on the rear of my 7 John, hope they make sense.

Comin out of the cover and over the axle-

Continuing up and forward where it's clamped to the lip of the floor-http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh307/mofus22/photo-13.jpg

    Different angle of same-

From the clamp it continues forward over the TC to the shifter-

    Into the shifter-

The cable is only connected in 3 places- the rear cover, the clamp on the rear lip of the floor, and the shifter. I slit a piece of fuel line and slid it on the cable where I thought it might be prone to chafing, and also put some heat wrap around it where it passed near one of the mufflers. I followed the directions for installing the cable to the shifter and have had zero issues. Built like a tank and works every time.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

Ok apparently I shouldn't attempt proofreading at midnight as I hosed up a couple of the pics but hopefully you'll get the idea...

Thanks Mike. I hadn't considered dropping the bottom of the shifter housing down through the floor. I'll have to take a look at doing it that way on my rig.
