Will Ross box install/removal ??

I am getting ready to set the tub on the chassis, (probably temporarily)

I still need to rebuild the Ross steering box.

I plan to leave the tub on the chassis for a while, and install the steering later. Or should I get the steering done first, before setting the tub on? When I originally took the tub off I unbolted the steering box from the frame and took the column/box/tub off altogether, due to stubborn steering wheel.

Will the Ross steering box and column assembly pass through the floor, if all of the tranny covers, floor plates, etc are off?

 

Im in the same boat as you Philip, but i dont have the option of removing the tub. I would remove the steering box cover and remove the worm gear shaft and column through the floor. Then, unbolt the steering box from the frame and crosslink. Its easiest to do it with the tub off the frame.

Search for a steering wheel puller or some combination of those words. You can easily make a puller for next to nothing. PB-blaster alone wont do it.

Oh, I have the steering wheel off now, in fact I have the whole thing disassembled, ready for a rebuild kit.

It seems that getting the bearings/column/etc assembled would be MUCH EASIER on the bench, then putting the whole shabang in through the floor. I've already chased those ball bearing across the floor ONCE!
