Can't find timing marks

    I have a 225 and I cannot see the timing marks on the block. I have repalaced all the tune up stuff and rebuilt the carb. It turns over, and acts like it wants to fire but won't. Any help would be appreciated. Also will a Holley 2209 2bbl fit to repace my Rochester 2G?

    the timing marks are on the driver's side of the front cover. they might be covered in paint.

    I though the timing marks on a 225 was casted into the cover? Doesn't the 231 have a bolt on timing mark bracket?

    I don't have the bolted on timing mark on my '69 225 - it's cast into the cover as Scott suggested.

    I remember the first time I tried to time mine, I marked it with chalk, fired it up and held the timing light and couldn't see a thing. Started turning the distributor by sound and then the mark came into view. Turned out she was so far out of time, the mark wasn't even in the range when the light went off. It didn't run or sound like it was that far off - boy was I surprised.

    Not trying to beat dead horse, but, the casting numbers on my block are DRH 115, which, according to the FSM are Domestic 1969 V6-225 9.0 C.R. (2 Bbl Carb)............. I really don't know anything about any of it, so if I'm wrong again (pretty common), I have way more to learn than I had planned on when I bought this little jewel.

    Casting number on the block has nothing to do with the timing cover, it could have been swapped at anytime. The factory timing cover for a 225 has the timing marks cast into the housing.

    Geez, it just gets better. Thanks for the info, Mike. Got a sinking feeling I just might have a JEEP for sale this year.............. More aggravation than I need. I thought I was gonna clean up a poor negelected little fella, and get a V-6 to play with in the process. Well, yeah, got that right!!! Or maybe it'll just sit this summer, and I'll kiss up to my 61. See if I'm forgiven and all...........
