Shock Absorber Recommendations

Hello all,

Moving a long on my project and need to keep parts coming in ahead of time. I know i can just pick any shock manufacturer off the shelf but is there any recommendations that any of you may have for stock ride height? I do not need exotic or special at all just wondering what worked well for any of you...Ie FCS, Monroe, Gabriel, KYB etc...

Any part numbers always appreciated.

That is what I was thinking too. Plus there is a rebate.

 

The Jeep shop put me 4 blue Monroe for my CJ5, 2 broke after some time. I did not discuss the price.
So... do not hesitate to pay and look for the best.

 

Just a thought: gas-charged shocks stiffen your suspension and ride. That might not be what you want for a Jeep in most conditions.
The gas-charged shocks provide reductions in fade and aeration, which are great features going over washboard at high speed. The stiffer shocks will help with body roll in cornering, if you even have any. At lower speeds like rock crawling and for normal city driving I'm not sure they do much other than give you a stiffer back at the end of the day?

 

If the shocks dont fit the suspension they will brake. Monroe are good, i use them for many years, you just have to get them in the right size (full open and close length).

 

These shocks were provided and fixed on my Jeep by a well known Jeep shop. I paid. They repair all Jeeps so they know their job but a mistake is possible. the part broke at the welding so maybe bad Monroe work.
2 broke. 1 we re welded and it is ok, the other one was exchanged by Jeep shop.

 

Not sure how they could possibly break like that unless they’re too short and get stretched past their limit.

 

Yes, if they don't fit they will break. The collapsed length has to be shorter than the distance between the pins at maximum upward travel. The pins can break too.
