225 V6 and TH400 in a Flatty

    Not to jump on your thread...but sounds like your questions were answered and somewhat same topic. I just got another flattie a month ago and the the whole package came with a 225 w/ 1500 on a rebuild and turbo 400 that came with the jeep(not installed). I really want to make that work just because of cool factor and... it came with it and..... I dont have one w/ an auto tranny. The advance adapters motor mounts also came with it. Anyone know about how far foreward I will have to scoot engine to have good radiator clearance but still ok driveline length? I have not measured it out yet as I am currently on other projects. And yes the drivetrain came from a 67 commando so it has the adapter

    It all starts with the grill mounted in its location. Then you need a radiator that will cool your engine. With the radiator mounted as far forward as possible-- usually means some trimming on the grill and headlight buckets on flatties-- Then you just need an inch of clearance for the fan. Try to avoid any unnessesary spacers on the fan or clutch-type fans with extra length. That will set how far forward your motor mounts need to be installed. Then figure how much clearence you have between your air cleaner and hood, as well as trans to firewall clearance, this sets your height. Side to side depends on steering shaft clearance of the exhaust manifold on the drivers side, and front driveline angle and clearance of the pan--most times will need mods to the pan on a t-350--on the passenger side. So every combo is going to be a little different. The very last thing you want to do is try to make some existing drivelines line up as to where to place the motor. That almost always makes for a disaster. It is a big jigsaw puzzle, but always a challenge and gets easier once you have done a few. Pm me if you need some more specifics as I have done a lot of 400 turbo V-6 combos in flatties.
