Dana 20 shifter

    Looking for info on rebuilding my Dana 20 shifter, it is the single handle U type pattern. It shifts ok, but it is kind of loose and just flops over to the side. Cant find a break down, so I'm not sure what is inside I could fix / replace.

    Sadly there aren't any replacement parts available unless you get lucky and find some on eBay. If you happen to have another one or two shifters or can get a hold of some you can usually put together one good. Another option is twin stick it if you're not worried about originality. I know a guy that has a write up on building your own or there is a guy on eBay that sells them ready to bolt on.

    Go to the 74 TSM, transfer case portion.
    Shifter is the same, rod lengths are different for other applications.
    I do have a repair kit, but it's a keeper.

    My son-in-law had that same problem on his U shift and I found the hold-down plate on the top had all 4 allen screws were about to fall out. I just tightened them back down and has been shifting fine ever since. Hope yours is this simple.

    x2 on the loose screws. Most often when cleaned up and tight, they shift just fine.

    Got it working better, tookit apart, ball at the end of shifter was about 1/3 gone, welded it and ground back to a ball,
    the left rail was worn from the ball, welded it and ground down back close to original, pawl slot was worn pretty bad,
    cut down a carbon stick to the size the slot should be, then welded around it and ground down edges,
    shifts much tighter, still need to do the slot on the shifter lever where the hold down goes, will cut a piece of carbon the
    right size for it , then weld and grind.
