I concur with the other comments about having a insignificant difference. I say....go with what would look better on the jeep.
They are fun to drive, and can go a lot of places. But there is no suspension....you get the crap beat out of you.
It sure sounds like it. The seal areas are the only points of pressure relief when the crankcase ventilation system gets plugged.....ie PCV valve...
You sure don't want a repair to fail and have pieces ingested into the motor. As mentioned...sounds like the best option is to replace the carb top.

How does the forward edge attach to the windshield? The PO had a piece of 2x4 across the inside edge? Any pics would really be appreciated.

Black RTV....my last Trans/TC rebuild hasn't leaked.....close to 5,000 miles. It doesn't have to be a thick layer, just 100% thorough coverage.
one concern also.....the bump stop on the righ side is there to prevent contact between the drive shaft and the bell housing.
I have so much slop and play in mine, hard to tell what position it's in....tried shimming things, but just doesn't cut it.
