Whats the best 3-4" lift kit?

    What is the best lift kit for driving around town with occasional dirt rode riding? I dont want one that is going to knock my teeth out. I know I have also heard of people converting to longer leaf springs from wranglers also. All info would be appreciated. Mine is a 61 cj-5 that is all stock.
     
  2. 3" body lift does'nt affect your ride, body lift combined with longer spring shackels can get you as much as 5" or more, spring over axle gets you 3" to "4 with very little ride change.

    And create other issues with steering, pedals, handling etc

    What tire size are you planning on running? Best is so subjective that everyone will have there own opinion. If planning 33" or smaller a quality 2 1/2" lift is typically enough depending on tire width, wheel offset, etc. More info would be helpful here. Holbrook Springs ride great and allow tons of flex but more money than most and gives more body roll. 3" of lift typical with those. BDS has a good rep here. Might also try a search if you haven't as this has been covered ad nauseum and should be lots of good reading on the subject

    I want to do a spring lift due to the current springs being 50 years old. I was looking for a quality spring company. I am planning on running around a 32 or 33" by 10.50 tire. So it looks like Holbrook or BDS have good ride quality? 3" lift sounds good to me.

    I just looked at Holbrooks website and I am impressed. How much longer are Holbrook springs than stock?

    Roughly about 9" depending on Application. I have a set waiting to go on a project. I've driven a jeep with a prototype set and other Jeeps with them and they ride awesome. If you are planning 31/32" tires then 2 1/2" to 3" is plenty of lift

    the Holbrooks are easy to install without having to lengthen the frame. Other members here have them also. I'm thinking Warloch runs them.

    I can't comment on BDS from personal experience as I havent run them but lots of folks here seem to like them

    There are as many different opinions as there are options.
    I have 4” Rancho lift. It flexes well enough but the ride isn’t that great, not like these things are supposed to be Cadillac’s but Rancho does have that reputation for not so great ride.

    I am running a 3 inch Black Diamond lift with 32 inch tires. My first Jeep (57 CJ5). I only have just over 1K miles on it, but I like it. I am also running Daystar greaeable shackles (2 1/2 inch sound right?). I believe the lifyt shackles give is only 1/2 of the total length. My thoughts are not to get too high, too much roll in my opinion for street driving.

    Yup - Holbrooks with Rancho 9000 shocks to adjust the ride (wheeling or street). They run great and will put them on a rig again.

    I can give you some closeups on install on a flatty if you want to see them.
