Anybody have some good photos of how the stock brake lines are ran & attached on a '72-'75 Dana 30 front axle? I'd like to do my brake lines as "right" as possible, but I don't even know if the lines I've bought are correct. I can't find any photos anywhere. Buying parts from 4wd Parts leaves me less than confident.

All I have are these shots of my axle as I received it, and the hoses were hacked off. At least I can tell the hoses route towards the front. But what kind of clamps, etc. are needed? Hoses all the way, or a mix of hoses and steel lines? The hoses I got are Omix-ADA, and they're about 15"-18" long, with fittings on one end like they go into a bracket of some kind. Also unsure of what to do about having enough slack in the hoses for the knuckles to turn.

Both sides are pretty much the same.
Only real hardware is that forked clip

Oh my, lookie there! I never even dreamed that they'd be ran through the frame like that! I figured they were ran along the top of the axle tube back to one line with a dual fitting, like on the D25 and D44. Many thanks! Now I've really got some creative cobbling to do. Guess I'll just put the short lines on the cylinders and worry about the rest when the axles are both hung and the chassis is rolling.

Your hoses(and therefore your wheel cylinders) appear to be reversed.

The hose needs to come from the rear and you get a nice simple curve that doesn't bind while turning.

Really? See, that's valuable info! That's what I'm looking for! Like I said, this D30 came off a parts Jeep, so no telling what was right and what wasn't. Right now is the perfect time to find this out, I'm at the point of putting the brakes on both axles.

I swear I take two steps forward, and then 1.5 back. I "thought" I had the rear axle completely done and ready to install, but as I was assembling the brakes onto the front axle, I discovered the wheel cylinders weren't right. Assumed I'd bought the wrong ones, but close inspection revealed that I'd actually put the front cylinders on the rear axle. So, I get to re-do a bunch of work. Again. mehh

Does anybody else have any more photos or input about these brake lines? I'm open for info from all angles! My '56 frame doesn't appear conducive to running the lines through the frame like these photos, so I'll have to come up with something else. I know I'm not the first to put a D30 with 11" drums on an early CJ5, so I'd love to hear/see what others have doen about these brake lines. Pretty please?

OK, I dug out another set of front backing plates that I have, and the hose on the right cylinder faces the front, while the hose on the left cylinder faces the rear!

    Now I'm really confused......
