Heat shielding

    Does anyone have any idea's for heat shielding material between my headers/mufflers and the floor pan?

    A piece of steel with an air gap on both sides works well.

    Would it work best fastened to the body or muffler?

    Body.

    Fastening it to the muff will transfer heat though the mounting hardware.

    Stainless steel or alum will work better than milt steel.

    You do need an air gap between the body and the shield.

    I made some out of 1/8" aluminum diamond plate. They're attached to the pipes with exhaust clamps, and spaced ~3/4" above the mufflers. It dropped my floorboard temps by over 100°.

    http://www.eastwoodcompany.com has insulation material for heat shielding. I'v used some in the past with good results. The item # is 52142. Hope this helps.
