May I ask what sort of radiator I should run, or how to tell what I would need?

How does the Quadrajet hold up?

Since you are already putting in a smallblock, why not go remote radiator?
The flattie is a strictly for fun rig correct?

I would suggest to consider a 65'/66' mustang aluminum radiator. They fit between the headlights pretty well. I bought a single 1 1/4" row and was told by the seller that it will cool 400HP comfortably. The 6 cyl and V8 have the inlet and outlet in different locations so see which works best for you. I bought mine on Ebay for $150. I can't tell you how well it works as I am still in building mode. It physically fits well though. I went with a 96 taurus fan. As for the quadrajet, it is hard to go wrong with one of them for a carb. They are great offroad (very tolerant off camber) and run nice.

The radiator in my post is a 2 row aluminum Northern 9605 which I think is the same as Summit 380325 ($160). Measures 25.5x19.5x3.25 (tanks). I had to reclock the outlet. It works much better than the 4 row Modine brass 347 of the same dimensions that I had used previously. The left headlight bucket required no alteration but the right (passenger side) was indented about 1" 1/3 the diameter of the back. This caused no problem with the lights. You can also see the soft urethane radiator mounting method in my pics.

Wrong. Still need to be able to put ANYTHING in the bed that may need to go there.
Cool, I'll have to find another Q-Jet. I'm liking the idea of a Muskrat radiator. I can have a local shop re loacate the inlet/outlet if needed as well correct?

I like that, but I have a 2A not a 3B. It looks as though you use every bit of hood clearance a 3B has to offer...

Yes, but notice there is a pretty substantial oil cooler beneath the radiator. It is about 6" high, more than the additional 4.5" on the high hood. I built a dropped cross member out of gusseted 4" channel, the bottom of which is at the bottom frame rail web. The oil cooler sits directly above it. One thing to keep in mind is the steering shaft to the saggy which you will want to route so that you can fit the maximum radiator.

That is true. Mine's hugging pretty close to the frame rail right now, so I hope I'll be good in that area. I got the intake off tonight, that's a heavy pig!

Sammy, probably obvious but another thing to consider is doing a mild body lift. While most correctly look at this as a tire clearence issue, it also gives you that much extra room under the hood and under the floor for placing a taller radiator, more air cleaner options, bigger fuel tank, and potentially not having to hack the floor pan/transmission cover to put a 465 or 420 in there. It certainly solved a few problems in the 3B like getting the left valve cover off with the brake booster almost right on top of it.

I measued that I can fit a 18x20 radiator in it. Mustang radiators from what looks like 65 to 71 were 16 3/8x17 3/4... For a 289-302 car.
    That will fit very nicely.
I know of a good tig welder that could probably swap the top outlet for me.

No going back now! Motor out, motor mounts cut out, cross member cut out, 283 in my buddys shop and SM420/Dana 18 on the floor.

Cut the grill....Touched up the paint with some somewhat close tan rattle can paint. It may get powder coated black sometime....

TJ Powersteering box bolted RIGHT up to my mount. It's a 3 hole not a 4 hole... And my steering linkage even fit, but the linkage is gone pretty quick here.

What a bargain. The pitman arm even fits, fits better then the manual gear box arm I had.

    Bill F Finally running

Last night I saw a very nice flatty with a chevy v8. Looked stock from the outside used a lot of stock parts including the radiator. I wish I had brought my camera I would have taken a picture of it for you.
