I am going to move my tank back under seat, and was hoping somebody had pictures of the fill neck from both sides with cap off...i have a fiberglass body, so i am going to order a plate, grommet, and vented cap... I think this should be all i need since the PO put an underseat tank in the rear for some reason...

Does everything just line up? fill line from plastic tank to neck plate with grommet? and the cap just wedges in? no screw on or off? i didn't have the original to work with so i don't know, and I am hoping it will all just fit in nice, without any hard work.

    Thanks guys!

Just understand with the under seat tank and the vented cap you will probably experience something similar to the Exxon Valdez every time that you pull a hard right turn. People complain about their Jeeps' poor gas mileage. It's not the gas that goes through the carburetor, it's the gas that sloshes out the tank that creates the problem! I've been exploring a fix for many moons and have yet to determine a suitable solution since I haven't found a gas cap that will seal effectively, but I'm still working it. Maybe some of the other threads out there can offer a solution. It seems that your PO decided to fix the problem by moving the tank out from under the seat.

MTS has vented cap that doesn't leak. At least mine didn't for several years.
When it started leaking thru the vent I JB'd it shut. I already had an added vent in the filler neck.

I have never had an issue with gas coming through my caps (shrugs maybe just lucky)

What is this M T S? and where can I buy one? My Carquest cap is closer to a funnel than a cap.

That MTS fit a stock tank?
Those tanks and fuel necks don't come close to the one in my '60 Willys.
Also the only time I've had spillage out of mine is when the pump wouldn't shut off.
The cap has never leaked on me.

i have always been afraid of places that are coy about telling me how much something costs.
    like MTS.
usually when i eventually find out how much i run away.

All you have to do is call them. Mine was ~150-175 IIRC.

I wonder if they understand that line of thinking? I feel the same way. When I'm vehicle shopping online I skip the ones with no price.

I get some spill out of my rear tank on off camber that has 18" of fill tube through a locking gas cap. I try not to fill it full.

I think some of the reason for not pricing stuff on line by these shops is sometimes the prices change quickly and if you're not computer savvy it can be a real pain to go in and change prices all the time to keep things current.

Well...just ordered my new leak proof MTS cap. It's a big day. They told me it was $19.95 and about $5 shipping (priority). We'll see how well it works and if it stops my problem with...spillage.

Do you still want a pic or two? I have a 57 CJ5 we are just now disassembling. I just took the top off and the seats out of it, so it should be original installation. Minus the rust of course....

Pricey, yes. But it's the only cap that's sealed for me.

dohc281 It is what it is.

Mine doesn't leak but is a bear to get on and off.

With gas a $2.60/gallon, and the amount I used to slosh out, I figure it won't take long to pay back the price difference.

Here you can see the telltale sign of a gas cap that never seals, terrain that had my lev-o-gage at 45* and dust on the trail.
