Can someone explain to me why there is a difference between under-seat v6 gas tanks and ones for the 4cyl? Are the sending units for a 4 cyl all on the bottom? Can I get one for a 6 in steel?

Oh, the sending unit the locking ring type, but does it matter if I go back to that same sending unit setup?

...can I get one in steel? Is there a big difference(looks) between the steel and plastic?

The feed line fitting on some models is also a different size for the V-6 (larger).

Plastic doesn't rust. The feed fitting is on the top of the MTS tanks (at least the one I just got is)

The MTS plastic tank uses a bolt on sending unit. Some of the metal V-6 tanks do too, some use the locking ring.

I can tomorrow. I just got the sending unit as well so can show pics of that uninstalled. I got their hold down bracket and after looking at it not sure how they expect it to work. Gotta experiment with that.

My old strap is still good. Would that work on one of those new plastic ones. Are you planning on painting it?

I have a spare stock strap and was going to check and see if it would work. don't know yet. I'm not going to paint the tank. Not sure if it would have a chemical reaction or not and they are black like the stock tank anyway.

I used the stock hold down strap with my MTS tank. I still use the stock oak planks under the tank as well.

Cool! Have you seen the MTS straps? Very weird. Don't know what they were thinking. May have to send them back. I'll get pics of them as well.

Stock was black for an ealy '70 model? When I pulled my old one out, it had two strips of rubber under it

All the under seat tanks were black as far as I know. My '67 had/ has 3 (I think) oak planks under it. IIRC, it changed to rubber strips sometime after that.

I was supposed to get a gas cap with the other stuff but I think the folks I ordered through forgot to order it. If I have to send the straps back I'll get one then.
Glad to hear that. I've heard that from other folks as well.

It was like 20 bucks, and that was probably 7 or 8 years ago, but it seals. The vent in it worked for a few years, then started leaking, so I JB'd over it. I added a vent in the fill neck. I'd have to get a pic, it's hard to explaIn. All I know is it does not leak.

just me I'm sure,,,,, but I did not like the mts plastic tank .I did not like how well it was plastic welded to the main body, ,just thought it would just rip off /crack if I was in a dirt /rock ditch with the body making contact with the ground and could not take a hit.......I went back to metal. at least I know that can take a pretty good hit or gouge the dirt.

I'm confused, are we still talking about under the driver's seat tanks? I didn't think the neck stuck out that much from the body
