I've not seen anyone else point this out yet.

F-134 still has a carburetor. The YF is more finicky than the 2G on the 225*.

    F-134 still has points too*.

Point is, they both are (relatively) old technology and will require care and upkeep, moreseo than a new vehicle. You're not gaining a thing by swapping IMO. Anything you can do to the F-134 to make it less in need of a tune-up, you can do to the 225.

    JMHO, YMMV, etc.

    *I've owned both...

Regarding the carb I would make sure I have a good inline filter and put Stabil in it if it were going to sit for a while - no matter which engine I had. I prefer a canister type gas filter that also separates water.

you make a good point I didn't realize they required as much tlc. don't get me wrong I don't mind tinckering but I hate troubleshooting. I think I am going to pertronix. I like the fact of the points in glove box backup plan.

Truth is the GO DEVIL = HURRICANE = DAUNTLESS.
All are equal, none better than the other except a certain engine might be better for your specific intended use age.
I have a soft spot for all three and want you to know that !

All these engines can handle 31' tires with 5.38 gears.

The Go DEVIL will be the absolute simplest to work on.
HP is sufficient for off road use and minor hi way speeds.
Fuel consumption is good when off-road, fair when on road.

The HURRICANE will be very dependable. and should easily give the best fuel mileage of those three choices.
HP/ torque is marginal for road use and good off the road.

The DAUNTLESS wins hands down on HP.
HP is useful to attain greater speed of motion such as pulling heavy loads or powering through a deep mud bog.
This engine gets a low score regarding fuel consumption. The DAUNTLESS Prestolite distributor has a very poor reputation for performance and that is certainly a concern for most any usage.

In general it is desirable to keep modifications to the absolute minimum.
If a particular jeep model fills your need then why change its design parameters ?
That only leads toward potential problems such as non standardization at best and non function at worst.

Yep go with a pertronix conversion! FYI A delco dist. has a little metal window that you can open up for adjustments, the prestolite is smaller and has now window. And you would gain nothing by swapping to the 4 cyl. except a lighter wallet.

Wise choice. If I had to do it again, I would have gone with the pertronix. No grinding the manifold is involved.

I also think that the advice for gas stabilizer is good stuff as well as driving it more often regularly.

Don't replace the Dauntless, it's a great engine. Lotsa torque for trail and power enough for the hiway. I spent years trying to tune out the miss, until an old jeeper told me I was wasting my time and to relish the sound of the 225 oddfire engine.
I used to have to set my timing a lot, too. Then while searching I found the roll pin in the drive gear on the bottom of the distributor was worn. I put a new roll pin and it helped, eventually I bought a new distributor from NAPA, I have a Delco HEI to install, but this one works so well, I can't remember the last time I tuned it.
I get 17-18 mpg hwy and 10-12 in fwd, not bad for what I'm usually asking it to do in return!
