Im just about ready to have the jeep sprayed. I would like to do it myself but i just dont have the space to let it sit for that period of time with out being in the way.

Im just wondering who all of you have used to paint her and about what it cost and what type of paints were used?

If you are inside any kind of City Corporate Boundry you may want to check your local zoning & fire codes before you spray paint a vehicle, Especially if your nieghbors are the complaining type.

I almost got in trouble for spraying primer on a fender, By luck it was less than the maximum 9 sq ft of area allowed for a repair. Turns out spraying a vehicle is illegal in Clarkdale Az unless its done in an approved spray booth, .........................You can spray paint your house, fence, patio furniture, and whatever else you can find that does not have a license plate though, thats ok

I was using a cup gun at the time so I asked " what if I painted the rig with rattle cans", The answer was "its still spray painting a vehicle" and thats a code violation.

I then asked about painting it with a brush, Things proceeded to get interesting after that when I could not be shown in the code where that was a violation.

Bottom line, Just be carefull and maybe do some homework, Or the man may show up and confiscate your spray equipment as evidence.

Standard Mack truck Green from the local Mack truck dealer. 50 bucks a gallon if I remember right, straight enamel. Buddy sprayed all the parts individually in my back yard. Figured there was no sense getting spendy on a JEEP paint job that was gonna get scratched up anyhow. Hood is starting to fade out now after many years but it does stay in the garage most of the time. Flat black primer is my next choice.

painted w/ a HVLP gun from HF...about $300 for all the paint and body supplies.
You might post a wanted ad in Craigslist, check their refs.....you might find a good freelance job w/o the shop cost

I draped the garage in plastic, put a fan blowing thru a furnace filter, in one end. used a spray gun and delstar paint.

I had a local body shop paint my CJ 6. I took it to them and let them work it in as they had time from repairing insurance jobs. I have a shop, but I did not want to tackle the job on my own. I didn't want to waste the money on paint and supplies only to have to pay someone to fix my mistakes. IIRC I paid about $1500 for some body work, prep, under coating, paint and clearcoat.

Tractor supply paint hvlp guns, 2 for $50. Tractor supply acrylic enamel, 2 gallons at $35 each. Tractor supply reducer, primer, etc. Don't remember the total cost but it was probably around $250. Driveway paint job.

bkap Gone, but not long gone.

I have done the same thing and still have the plastic rolled up and strapped to the rafters. Be careful on the fans. On one job I decided I needed more ventilation and turned on all the exhaust fans, cooler and even the ceiling fan over the shop desk. All that did was spread the paint around the shop. I was better off just exhausting under the shop door with a small fan. Live and learn... It would have helped a lot to seal off the top of the "paint booth" with plastic, as well.

I have been thinking of using the Tractor Supply paint. How did it work and how durable is it? I really like the color.........

Did mine in my garage last winter, 1st time I've taken on a project like that. Funny but I didn't even think about checking the local codes. It needed to be done, so I did it. It turned out pretty good. I used a Northern Tool HVLP gun to single stage epoxy all of the body parts entirely, then followed by LineX bedliner to the underside, then urethane primer the outside, wet sanded and top coated with several coats of acrylic enamel to the outside. Then slapped her together.

That is a Massey yellow as I recall. Not sure but I could look. The paint sprayed fine. The only issue I had was that it has faded a little after 3-4 years. Probably would be fine if I waxed it.
