i searched, and have done alot of reading, and know more than i didR) i have noticed on the d18 with single shifter when you put the transfer into neutral it engages the front drive shaft, this normal? if so i dont care much for it, anyway around it aside from converting to a twin stick? i would prefer the twin stick but just hate to take 2 apart to make one:rofl:

Huh? Not sure I understand the questin. If the transfer case is in neutral, both the front and rear driveshafts free-wheel. Not connected together or to the transmission.

let me try to clarify what i have going on, 4 low everything works normal , 4 high everything works normal, 2 high everything works normal, neutral is where the problem is, when in neutral it disconnects from the trans mission, and disconnect the drive shafts from the transfer, but here is what i dont understand, it also locks the front and rear drive shafts together:? so if the rear drive shaft is turning like if you were towing it the front also turns, thought it may be faulty hubs, not the case, sitting in floor now out of the jeep does the same thing

The hubs shouldn't matter, since the 'neutral' is provided with or without the hubs present.

Heck I could be mistaken about disconnecting front and rear on the 18, but I don't think so. I have a diagram of the 20, but not of the 18. The 20 diagram shows 2 splines (sliding gears), one for the front and one for the rear driveshaft. When both are disconnected, the shafts free-wheel.

My single stick D18 is like yours. When in neutral on D18, the front and rear outputs are locked together. Both turn the same direction but it is disconnected from trans. I'm with you--Is this by design? Kinda screwy if so.

Contact Herm the overdrive guy on that. He should be able to help you even if it is not an overdrive unit.
He is very knowledgeable about these things.:):coffee::hurrican:

well at least i aint the only oneR) what year is your drivetrain? this setup came out of a 1970 with f134 t90 d27 up front and flanged d44 rear(thinking flanged is correct) had the bigger axels

Single stick did not come with a 4 banger, it was only with the v6 model.
When my setup was in neutral neither driveshaft would spin, rear was locked by the rear wheels. Front was locked unless the hubs were undone.
