I,ve got a 56 CJ 5. I will be installing a 4" suspension lift. My question is what is the best brand of lift kit for my application? Thanks Doug

Well, I've got the Skyjacker 2" lift and it's been great for many years. Note that because the old springs were really sagged out I got way more than 2" of lift. YMMV

the search function will give you lots of answers. what size tire do you want to run? 33x12.50s can be run with a 2.5 inch kit. BDS is a popular one.

    I'm planning on 35X12.50 Wrangler RT's.

Kind of an open ended question like "what's the best car for me?". More info like terrain type, style of driving, weather conditions (rain, ice, slushy snow, hard pack snow, sand, etc) is very helpful with questions like this.
That being said, try the search function as was said as this has been covered pretty extensively. If you still have questions then ask away!

For that tire size you'll need at least a 4" lift and a sawzall.

I posted some pics of 35's on a early cj a few days back in OT section. 35's are way big for a early cj, You will break things alot. 33's and 2.5" lift work better and don't over tax everything the same way. These little jeeps are narrow too, watch getting up to high. Just a thought.

don't know how much mechanical ability you have or how much money you have to spend, but tons of people like Rubicon Express a lot. I would say do their 4" YJ lift, and get new main spring eye mounts to bolt to your frame and new shackles to accomodate the wider YJ leafs. The Rubicon Express stuff is supposed to flex awsome and the wider YJ springs will give you much better flex over the CJ springs. RE stuff is on the spendier side, though, but it's the springs I'm looking at for when I need new suspension.

I have to say that I'm pretty happy with my 4" Skyjacker soft ride leaf springs (for my trail only rig). Seems to flex pretty good. That should be a direct bolt up for you.

I'm running a pro-comp 2.5" with performance accessories lift shackles on my M38A-1 - and clearing 36x12.50 Super Swamper TSL's

As far as breakage, umm, I did blow up the dana 27 front carrier - other than that - no problems yet......
