Need help with first Jeep purchase

    StraightToPlaid Ludicrous speed!!!!

Is it just me or is the transfer case shifter way far forward? It looks like it's under the dash, almost all the way to the firewall. I've got a twinstick though so I don't know about the single stick.

Looks worth the asking price though, I would only worry about the VIN. Do they have a title?

Yeah - that's how the single stick looks.

Wow, reaching under the dash to shift would be awkward. I never knew it was that forward.

I think for that Jeep I would go see the seller today, right now, with cash. Yes that's a good price.

Haven't bought it yet....I took the pictures on Friday and posted them to see what you all thought. Today (Sunday) we got almost a foot of snow so I won't be going for a few days. It's suppose to be 40F by Wednesday so I hope I can get it by the end of the week.

    I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks again for the overwhelming response ! Looks like I've signed up with a good group.

Any good resources on the best way to take the CJ5 apart ? I plan on removing everything and restoring as best as I can. Lots of sandblasting and wire wheeling in my future !

Go get-er! Here, we also do like lots of pictures, you'll see this a lot :uwop: So don't be afraid :)
I'd start here with the rebuild part: http://earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48399
Label everything and just start dis assembling it. Pull wires, take off seats, bar, windshield, remove front clip, take off body tub.
Never dis assemble it all at once, like don't take apart the axles when working on the engine, divide it up into small sort out projects. Searching is also a good way for information. That's all I have....

And, A factory service manual helps a LOT, also, start your build thread so we can fallow as you progress, and even check out other threads there, it shows how others have done their rebuild.

How hard are these to come by? I haven't seen any at the on line parts places, unless you buy a radiator.

Good find! A couple of suggestions. As you take it apart take PLENTY of pics. It really helps when you go to put it back together. I took my CJ apart back in the mid 80's and it's tough to remember today where everything goes. Also, Buy several boxes of ziplock bags. Put all your small parts in them as they come off and label each bag. Store the bags, along with other parts, in boxes. And finally, number the boxes and make a list of what each box contains. An Excel program works great for this since once you make the list you can instantly relist it alphabetically, or by box. I'm up to 42 boxes on mine but I can find any part without too much trouble.

Looks good does it run? The correct shifting for the 4-wheel drive lever is 2h-4h-n-4l.

From looking at the piks real fast and the lines on the body I would say It's a bondo buggy espesially in the front and the area where u live uses a lot of salt even back in the old days 65-67 so be careful u may be walkin into a BIG Disapointment ...Just my thoughts there are a lot of cj's out there even check the ads in this web site, Calculate the cost and the time u will be spending....... Price is Tooooooo steep at 1000.00..Start a coupla hundred no more thats if it's runnin and actually moves which I dought ......Mustashi

bkap Gone, but not long gone.

I'd agree with most here that $1000 and under could be a pretty good deal. My only other thought on it would be that those must have been some pretty rough 32,000 original miles.
