    On another board, somebody cited a source that says that there were only 50,000 CJ-6s made, and that 90% were exported. This seems way low for domestic production to me. These Jeeps are scarce, but they aren't really rare.

    The CJ-6 was produced from 1954 (?) through 1975, which is 21 years. If the above numbers are correct, that's less than 250 CJ-6s per year. We know (somehow) that 459 CJ-6as were produced from 64-67, three years. That's 153 per year in that period, which would be more than 60% of total domestic production those years...

    I'd guess that more like 500-1000 were produced per year in that era; even that seems low, given the number of customers that would have to buy the Tux models (15% to 30%).

    Anybody have better numbers on this?

    It's late and I've been coding alot...but seems like 50K overall units divided by 21 years of production == ~2381 units per year, which seems reasonable given the data I linked to.

    Looking at the figures, there were a few "ST CH" - chassis units? What is ST? Stripped?

    Stripped or standard....either way I'd expect bare chassis sold to aftermarket builders...maybe a LWB Zamboni...:)

    aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

    OK, for the CJ6, from Aug 1955 to 1981, my little book says total production was 33,766 with an additional 459 of the CJ6A's being built.

    I can break out the individual years and break down by Diesel's, 6A's, and Fire. I have no idea what a Fire is but it was listed seperate so I mentioned it. But there seemed to be a total production of 4 made in 1960. Diesel 6's were also rare. Only 20 of those in 61. The rest of the years it was avaliable, no specific information given. It is assumed less than 3000 diesel's were made and most went overseas.

    ST = stripped chassies.

    If you compare the numbers to actual seriel numbers, there seems to be a little bit if changes in numbers of production.

    All above comes from Jim Allen's book, Collector's Library Jeep. I've found it to be a very good reading book.

    IF it's wrong, let me know.

    Tuxedo Park version of the CJ6.

    I'm guessing your Aussie versions aren't included in those numbers - seems like they would be outside the domain of the Toledo bean counters.

    Still would like to know how many CJ6's the Forest Service purchased in 1974. And what other Jeep vehicles they bought between 1945 and 1975.
