I have a 68 jeepster frame with the Buick 225 and manual Tranny with D20 T-case. I am wanting to put a TH400 behind the 225 V6 I have a BOP tranny with converter and flywheel that was on the engine that was on the olds v8. I have the T-case adapter for the d20. what else will I need or waht do I need to change. I am getting the frame ready for a 47 Willys wagon body. The reason I am changing the manual tranny is I do not have the cables or the correct conections for the manual tranny.

    Thanks

Is the adapter from a TH400 to a D20? The one off the manual trans won't work. You'll also need the 225 Flexplate, I don't think the one from the V-8 is balanced right.

Youll need to swap the output shaft of the transmission as that matches the adapter assembly. Flex plate, kickdown cable, etc. Nickmil

Hey, what are you doing over here :p? Just kidding. For everybody's information the D20 to auto adapter is a direct bolt on to a short tail stock 400 and the 400 uses no kick down cable. They do have a solenoid activated kickdown if you wanted to hook that up. Requires either a carb mounted switch or one connected to the gas pedal. The solenoid is inside the tranny. The one on my 73 Commando hasn't been connected or working for years, if I feel the need I just manually down shift. As mentioned and you already know you will need the 225 flexplate, the 307 has a different bolt pattern for the crank so wouldn't fit anyway.

Doh, that's right on the switch. Forgot about that. Must have been thinking of TH 350. The stock Jeep output shaft for the TH-400 to 20 transfer case has a groove for an o-ring to seal where the output shaft goes into the adapter. Keeps atf from flowing into the transfer case and vice verse. Do you know if the stock 2 wheel drive short shaft has this? I know the stock 4 wheel drive TH-400 to 203 shaft will work too but some of those shafts have the o-ring groove and some don't.
Hey, sometimes I like to see how the "other half" lives....R)R) Nickmil

I have plenty of access to the oddfire Buick 231 engines but have no 225's in the yard. My wife works for a classic junkyard. I have got the distributor for the HIE upgrade. a TH-400 with a BOP houseing, T-case tail adapter, d20 T-case, 4 brl intakew/ carb. just don't have the flexplate... :(

Do they happen to have any cross reference manuals at this yard? Should be able to tell you whether the 231 oddfire flex would fit.

Crap, you may be right about that, been a long time since I looked at anything other than a Jeepster 400. Better check that before you get too carried away Dalton. Worse case you may have to get the output shaft changed or pull the tranny apart and get a machine shop to cut a groove into it.
