Photo of frame butt-joint. Stock or not?

My frame rails are butt welded just in front of the forward rear spring hanger. A doubler plate is welded under each rail extending 10" beyond the 'middle' spring hangers. (Total length 62"). Do I have two Jeeps, a shortened CJ6 or was it built that way at the factory? I don't see anything similar in the photo galleries and am thinking that a PO may have been creative down on the farm.

That's definitely not factory. I haven't read your posts so maybe it's mentioned but that t-case isn't factory either, at least not for your JEEP. EDIT. After more reading I see your conversion. Nice job!

Thanks Glenn, I presumed it was not stock but the strange thing is that the spring hangers have been re-fitted over the underside doubler plate using the factory style rivets. That DOES sound like a factory job, wouldn't you say?

Those straps between the frame & hanger are a CJ6 feature, I'd say someone did as you suspected & chopped a 6 frame.

from working with my old Fords over the years, I know its not impossible to get factory style rivets and re-install things like spring hangers to look like factory original.

Or possibly it might have been cracked at one time and that is a fix for it.

Also possible that two frames were put together to make one good one. Should be plenty strong if the straps continue over the splice.

Does the stock strapping (on the bottom rail only!) of a CJ-6 extend under the hangers? I thought it did not.

firefighter mikes strapping did not extend under the spring hangers. All you need for the factory rivet look is a bucking plate and a air hammer.

I'm pretty sure it did on Maggie but I may be wrong on that.

Hey Enos- you reading this? can you check that rear frame section I gave you & check if the straps do indeed run between the frame & spring hanger?
