I got the underseat tank and when I make a right hand turn or the jeep is leaning that way with a full or full enough to reach the neck, Gas leaks out the filler??? I'd do a search but this doesn't seem to be a major issue lately.

It is built to do that. it allows for the gasses to vent when it gets hot otherwise you have a pressure vessel of gas.

    nope.

My jeep does this too, I tried to make a gasket out of fuel safe RTV, that was a mess. A filter and fuel pump later, i should have stuck with the leak. The best fix I found for this was when i put in a new gas tank, the cap fits nice and tight now. I dont know if it still leaks at angles or not, since i havent been out on the trail since i put the new tank in.

I can't think of any way to stop the leaking totally. Some brands of caps leak more than others though. They all have a hole in them to let vapor out, and if liquid gas is up against the cap, they will seep fuel. The grommet is supposed to keep any spilled fuel out of the interior.

The rear-mounted tanks are better about leaking because either they are equipped with vapor recovery systems (sealed, best) or the cap is somewhat higher than the fuel level.

With my MTS poly tank, MTS gas cap, and the vent I added, I've finally completely cured this....

    Patrick,
Where'd you run the vent line to? To the air cleaner? I've been thinking about doing the same thing on the '68 since I want to go to an MTS tank in it and it's getting a FI 4.3. Nickmil

From the filler neck, it just runs up inside the edge of the tub, loops back and thru a hole I drilled in the filler well, just above the filler...

    Karl,

Where / what / cap did you find to fit the underseat tank that doesn't leak? Part number / mfg / flaps?

Another thread here started by saying a "new" cap didn't leak, then after driving it revised the post to say it too leaked on a lean or turn came up.

Mine has always leaked, even after buying new ones. I'd sure like to find a cap that didn't leak, in leans and turns.

I replaced my old tank with a new poly tank, when I installed it the old cap leaked. I bought a brand new cap from the place I got the tank from, and it leaked. I called them back and the sent me a second rubber gasket. Since doubling up the rubber gasket, it hasn't leaked again (although maybe it should be leaking for ventilation).

Hey Ken...I'm not sure, but I think Karl means that he bought a new cap, took the rubber gasket out of it, and put that gasket in his original cap. That's how I read it anyway.
