Any one out there have any tricks to convert a AMC 20 to full float. I am trying to get my plans together. I am using a dana 30 for the spindles, rotors, hubs, and brake parts.Any help would be great!

Warn makes a kit. Many would call it polishing a turd. You are probably better off getting a Dana 44. If you are going to keep the 20, make sure to put a truss on it, and weld the tubes.

Actually Warn no longer makes FF kits.

Probably leftover stock as Warn is out of the axle business. They are making no new kits but are selling what's left of inventory. Got that straight from the horse's mouth being as I am involved with the largest Warn stocking axle dealer on the west coast until Warn cut the axle program. That dealer also is continuing to sell stock until it runs out. There will still be some service parts available for some time from Warn though. Nickmil

I just checked with Paul at R&P. If you have a Narrow track centered 20 from a CJ, R&P has a used set up with one new axle for $450. That's close to the cost of the axles alone. Give 'em a call at 503-557-8911. Nickmil

$450 is cheap. Custom axles alone are going to cost you more than that. Since there is no known production axle in those lengths and splines you are going to have to buy two axles and have them splined then heat treated. Hubs need to be of premium quality and there goes another $100 if not more. Then you will need spindles, and hubs for the drum brakes.

Well from what I understand with his project is that the only expence in it is going to be the custom axels. Which the axels from SCP arnt that expensive its going to get them splined is going to be the trick.

So let me get this straight...you scrapped one of the weakest axles made for one of the strongest? Now why would you do that?

     :)

BTW adding disks to a 9" is pretty easy.

The bad thing is just by adding anther Ford part he just lost some preformance ,glad he has that vette engine in there so he has some to spare R)R)R)

Full float 9" are REAL common here ,we have 3 races tracks withing a hour of here and 7 with in 1 hour 20 minutes :D. There are 2 full float 9 inch rears in the shop where I rebuilt my jeep at.

Glad you scrapped the project. The spindles you were going to use won't work without a lot of reworking. They work fine on a 44 rear with minor machining but the AMC 20 housing end is completely different and requires special spindles. Besides, the housing is weak anyway. Nickmil

Unfortunately or fortunately for me,I found this out when I went to put the axles in the housing they would not fit through the spindles.I guess I should have tried them before I made new end flanges for the housing and reworked the spindles. With that said 1.25 axles will not fit D30 spindles and they will be to weak to support the weight of the vehicle after boring them out!So with that little problem out of the way and in the the scrap pile,I had a nice big bearing 31 spline 9 inch in the corner of the shop,so why not use it.
