I'd like to get an idea of the maximum tire size I could run on my M38A1 w/no lift. I know it's subject to a few different variables but I'm just trying to get an idea of where to start. Thanks in advance.

I ran 32 x 10.50's before I went to the lift springs - it was a tight fit but worked ok. The springs were old and sagged out but I think I used some slightly longer shackles.

I am currently running 31X10.50 on mine with plenty of room. I am sagging in the back due to the hard top and tire carier and tired leafs. I will try to correct the issue by having the springs reworked this winter, while the Jeep sleeps for the winter. Hopefully new suspension lift by next winter.

    Hope my $0.02 helps.

How much metal do you want to cut? :)

Thanks all for the input. I think I'll go with 31x10.5's if they can fit on my 15 inch rims so I don't have to buy new rims yet. I can always step up from there. Thanks again.

    StraightToPlaid Ludicrous speed!!!!

Somewhere on the net I saw a guy running 35 on a flat fender with no lift. Then again, he had to make a tube frame for the rear end and completely remove the front fenders... Personally I'd never want to do that to my jeep!

I have had 245/75-16 on my A1 without rubbage, they're about same size as 10.50/31-15. 265's rubbed though.

Does anybody know how tall 7.50x16's are?

Thanks David! I'm really liking the looks of the Co-op Grip Spurs, but I've only found one place where I can get them. I swear he said they only come in 7.50x16, but the store is too far away to just go check 'em out. I'm a long ways from needing to buy tires anyway. Just wondering if 7.50's were tall enough to need a small lift, all I knew was they're taller than 7.00's.

These just look like perfect "Colorado tires" to me...

Ron, I ran a set of 7.50 x 16 Grip Spurs on a Series Land Rover for years and they are awesome! Not sure about lift requirements on a CJ, but they fit the Rover w/o modification. They last forever too. Glad to see they still make 'em. Definitely an old school classic.

They're not cheap, either. 'Bout a buck-and-a-half apiece, without tubes/liners/mounting. They really look like they'd do the job quite well.

I really like the Grip Spurs on my JEEP. They clean out well and will either propel you forward or take you straight down. I've never run on rocks but they climb hills and eat through mud as well as anything I've run across. Mine are 7.00x15 and I would put them up against any mud tire of like size. My .02

Did you have any trouble finding them? Co-op's seem to be scarce around here. The closest place I've found is like 75 miles away, one-way.

Grip Spur's ROCK!!!!!! I thought they were loooong gone by now. The set on my '56 were put on in the mid '60s. Years and years of farm use, awesome in mud, finally took em off last year as I blew a left front while plowing. Casing split in the middle due to dry rot and blew the tubeR) R) . I would put em on again in a heartbeat, although maybe not for a DD. You WILL get some rubbin on the springs up front with a 7.50 tire (mine were) due to the big shoulder lugs. Small price to pay for a great retro tire. Any contact info Ron? Oh, you won't need a lift, mine was stock susp.

Hey Case, I talked to a guy named Brent at Poudre Valley CO-OP in Ft. Collins, CO, at 970-221-5300. He quoted me $150 each for 7.50x16's, said they're 33" tall. Give him a call, he might be able to advise on how you can get some in your neck o' the woods.

Thanks Ron. Those are great tires, I'd prefer them to a NDT or NDCC tire any day. I always thought my '56 looked just right with those tires. My Dad got 'em at an Agway Farm Store back in the day.

Glad to hear it! I'm seriously considering them, but that's a lotta coin for 5 tires, w/tubes & liners, mounted and balanced. My local Discount Tire can get me new Firestone 7.00x16 NDT's for $83 apiece.

I just mounted a set of 31x10.5x15" SuperSwamper TSL's on my stock CJ5 and they fit/look great. They're less expensive and lower maintenance than those Grip Spurs.
