Kevin - you get the cans - I'll bring the beer. I could use .50 and larger cans for ammo, parts, and other toys.

What are the chances of finding a marine biologist floating right next to an abandoned ammo can?! I hope you offered him a lift to shore....

    mb82 I feel great!

He was a surfer and I was out in my surf kayak. Nice guy, and yeh it was really strange that he happened to be a marine Biologist.

I used a fairly large ammo can for my console so I would have plenty of room for a stereo. One thing I did different from most was to cut the lid and hinge it about 6" from the front end. That way I could get to the stereo without having to swing the entire lid back. I cut it straight across and used a narrow cut off wheel on a 4.5 " grinder to notch the ribs on the underside of the lid to slip a piano type hinge in for welding, barrel up.

When I bought my 1974 FL, the saddlebags had drain plugs installed by the PO to let the melted ice out! He had also put styrofoam inserts in the lids to cut down on the melting. Bike had lots of "beer bruises" though. I never used 'em for beer, but did use one as a cooler on several camping trips. People always seemd surprised when I rode that old beast down fire trails to a campsite!

Wideners usually has a good price on 50 cal cans. They grade them too, their A grade cans are typically in excellent condition.

Add some ammo to the order and shipping becomes reasonable :)

The side latch 50 cal cans look interesting!

    try www.armysurpluswarehouse.com.
go to containers. The mortor box is what I used for under the rear seat storage in a '47 cj2a. Seat fit right onto the top of the box.

    StraightToPlaid Ludicrous speed!!!!

An army navy store sells them near me but they have no problem charging you a small mint to get one. I think I paid $15 for a little can I use to hold a bunch of loose wires and stuff for my computer.
