Seat Belts and turn signals?

Did Flatties have em? Might be a dumb question. I had a set in mine when I got it, but wouldn't trust them anyway so I threw them out.

Turn signals were an option I am guessing as well... Just trying to figure out how to wire this thing until I can afford a painless kit...

 

I can't say about OEM, but the law in NH requires turn signals on vehicles after 1952.

When I registered my "1951" M38A1, okay, so I lied a little... ;-)

I forgot painless is a namebrand I was already planning on the ezwire kit.

As far as signals mine had an aftermarket kit that I have seen common to jeeps and hooked up to Vega tail lights. (IIRC) , but the switch is no good so I will have to get ahold of one eventually.

 

It likely will have a full cage and I have a 5 point harness that will go in then. I was mostly curious on the regular seat belts.

I do not know how far I am going to take this build as it seems to change direction weekly.

Mine will have a triangulated 4 link rear and SOA front on narrow trac axles as of right now with pizza cutters. BUT i am thinking it may be too narrow for the height, in which case I may keep it close to stock.

Right now I have the 2A frame and axles in great shape, however I am not using them. I am disassembling the rolling frame and putting it in my basement if I can get it down there. The 2A body is going onto an ECJ5 chassis with a saggy swap already done and 225 :v6: already installed with headers and sidepipes (they are already there), the chassis is just looking for a body. It will have a closed knuckle 27 front, offset 44 rear, with a D18 t-case, and temporarily a T86 tranny. I hope to find a PTO unit for it. It also has warn hubs.

I was just curious about the belts as they were in it and were rudimentary retractables at best.

I am going for retro-mod with it, sorta stock looking at 50' and you get on it and makes you think.

to throw more of a wrench into things it will be a 2A with navy markings in honor of my grandpa (no one but a jeeper wont realize its not military) and likely will get an M38 arctic hard top for part of the season. (I have the window frame part, have to go back and het the hard top if the kid would come home from school)

I originally wanted to restore this jeep, but it is far too 'dented' and many pieces are missing or been hacked (the dash and rear quarters)

IIRC seatbelts were required nationwide in September 1965, for the 1966 MY. That was when the initial NHTSA rules went into effect. I believe some states, like NY, required them a year earlier.

 

MB's, GPW's, 2A's, M38's and 3A's didn't have turn signals, I'm not sure about the 3B's.

I know the later 3B came with signals.

 

NH does not require turn signals if you vehical was not orginally equiped with them. Use antique plates and you dont have to worry about it.

 

I know I dont have to worry about it, But in Michigan if they were standard equipment they have to be there I believe. I cant remember if they do it that way, or when the law required them. I was 99% sure a CJ2A did not have them, but mine had some VERY rudimentary retractable lapbelts, they actually looked like they were from that era... but so much had been added I was assuming these were too.

Here it wouldn' matter antique plate or not -- but I am getting one as they do not have to be renewed IIRC.

I know on my '48 2A the turn signals where dealer installed and didn't come with seatbelts... although if you're going to be driving any distance on roads I'd put them on. I use mine around the farm and just left it without.
