Ebay project woes and pics, can you help?

This is the jeep I won the bid for on ebay. I was wondering if anyone could help. It is a 74 with a glass body. It has a 79 power steering column with a automatic brake and creative clutch pedal. So I picked up the 74 pedals with the help of a member on this site. Now I am unsure if I can make the two work together. Do I need to get a different column? As you can see the seats are kinda funky too. On blocks. So it is not comfortable to drive. Right now I have the steering wheel in my chest and sit to close to the pedals.

I was hoping some one could post some measurements. Everyone has been very generous with their ideas but I have no reference points. For example what is the distance of the end of the steering column from the dash and from the floor supose to be in the stock 74? What distance are the seats supose to be in the front and back of the seat from the floor on the stock 74?

You ask why did I buy it with all these problems, well first the price was right. Second once you win the bid on ebay it is yours.

    Thanks :flag:

With that steering column, you should be able to get a 1976 and up clutch/brake pedal setup to replace your mess. I bought one for about $40.00 to do a later model column conversion. You also have the later model seat brackets. I put them in my '75 Cj-5 that has a fiberglass body, to replace the original tubular ones. IIRC, the the outermost part of the bracket, and the inner rear part bolted flat to the floor, and I made a spacer for the inner front part. Make sure you use some hefty washers on the underside of the floor, so the bolts don't pull through the fiberglass.

Do you already have the later pedal bracket in there? Thats about what it looked like. When I did mine (74, glass body) I used the later bracket. That will locate the column where it needs to be. You can replace just the brake pedal or just cut it off and weld it together how you want it. You can tell if you have the later braket by compairing it to the 74 bracket. The later one will be wider and sits a little higher in the body. The later one also has the proper holes in it to mount that column. The later will also be set up for a brake light switch right off the top of the brake pedal. I would stick with the later bracket. Fix the stuff to make it work.

The seat mounts are very creative :) I mounted my seats to the cage.

also, the trim ring around the column looks upside down... you also have the later style windshield. You sure you don't have a 79 that just got titled as a 74? Is the frame wider at the back than it is at the front?

The PO was probably short and couldn't see over the dash! That looks like a very nice Jeep though.

Will a Clutch and Brake Padal assembly for a 1980 CJ7 bolt to a 1979 cj5 w/powersteering column that I have in my 74? :flag:

Thank you all for your help, tips and comments! :)

Here are some pictures. I was off a little in the PM as the mount nutplates are more like half way down the column.
This shows the U shaped mount just behind the dash.

This shows the lower bracket that I made to attach the bottom end of my column. You can still see the origional column hole that I have yet to get patched. I am going to patch it with a piece of sheet aluminum and then fiberglass it in.

This shows the U shaped mount in my 74. The piece with the two holes is the mount from the origional column. I cut it off the old column and used it to trim out the new column. I still have some work to get done under there. I am going to add some adel clamps to hold the wires and I have some more trim pieces to install.

this shows the later model S10 tilt column that I am going to use in my 77/79. You can see two of the mount nut plates that I was talking about. You can also see the firewall side mount. On my 74 that mount didn't line up for me so I cut it off and made my own.

No problem doing this, I just put in 1983 CJ7 overhead pedals, power brakes, tilt steering with a Saginaw convert in my 71 with a glass tub. Also installed a Wilwood hydraulic clutch while I was at it.

Thank you. I think I will go with the 79 foot pedal assembly.
