My issue is the yoke on front differential is for a smaller ujoint than the yoke on the transfer case..

has anyone found a yoke that will replace the smaller ujoint yoke with one that will accept the 3.2” ujoint?

    needs to have 26 splines….

    thanks,
    D

The difference in the yokes was due to the v6 engine. The 4 cylinder has the larger yoke and the v6 had the smaller one to help clearance the belhousing and engine. Find a yoke off of a 4 cylinder Dana 27 and your in business.

They do exist, post a WTB ad in the classifieds.

The Dana 27 uses a specific spline depth different from all the other Dana yokes so the right yoke is hard to find. As others have noted, the factory appication was early 60's to 71 4 cylinder CJs with a front D27.

I got one here last year for my '71 but they seem to be out of stock now. Might be worth contacting them:
Action machines lists them too and may have them in stock:
As others have noted, your best bet is posting a want to buy in the classifieds.

Send a PM to forum member nickmil. He has a buddy, Richard of R&P 4wd, who sold me a D27 yoke a month or so back. I think he said he had more than one on hand at that time.

Thanks all for info…the four cylinder Dana 27 yoke has larger and fewer splines so it will not fit…I’ll put up a wtb post.

Fireball’s link to Northern Drivetrain looks looks like the one you are looking for, though out of stock. Use that part number to search.

No it doesn’t. The 27 yokes on the gear shaft side are the same. The 25 has fewer and larger splines.
Richard can be reached at 503-557-8911 or at RandPCustom4x4@outlook.com
He does not have a website. The old business website was hacked so I wouldn’t search or click on it.
I’ve posted it before but another source is from an IH Scout 80 front or rear (used 27’s front and rear) or the front of many Scout 800’s.
Im having lunch with Richard today and will try and remember to ask if he has any more 27 153x u-joint yokes.

I asked Richard and he is currently out of stock but has some OEM used ones coming. Not exactly sure when they will be in. Best to call him but he will answer e-mails as soon as he can. Remember he is a one man show.

If you are just trying to mate the driveshaft to the differential, I believe there is a u-joint made for that application. It is a combination of the
two sizes. If you are wanting to beef the thing up or standardize the parts needed then you will need the yoke.

Do you need the transfer case yoke? I may have one in my stash. It requires a coarse spline yoke on an 18 transfer case.

The one by Northern Drivetrain looks to be the right one. The one by Action Machine has 32 splines so won’t work.

The 30 yoke won’t work, depth is wrong. Unfortunately the 27 uses a unique yoke because of the depth which is why they can be harder to find. Otherwise a 30 or 44 yoke would work which are easy to find. Long ago I posted a picture with the yokes side by side. Probably gone now.

In the back of my mind I thought there was an issue. I am trying to figure out where I got the ones I put on 3 V6 jeeps that I converted to 1310's.

I was thinking of the Dana Spicer 5-248X used on the Jeep C101, Commando and Jeepster. The yoke is obsolete
and most likely had very few applications. As Fireball said the spline depth to mating surface is .344" longer. The best
option would be to have a driveshaft made or go to a Dana 30. I would like to know how you converted yours.

It is hard to tell from his post but it looks like he has the parts to make it all
function and just wants to upgrade.

That's how I learned, I tried to use a D30 yoke based on the spline count but it never tightened the pinion bearings up because the nut bottomed out on the end of the threads.

Have you thought about converting to a Dana 30? Many have done just that. I sure love mine. The tighter turning radius, among other things, is worthwhile.

It will slip in but it's too short and the nut will bottom out before it tightens the pinion bearings.
