    Hello,
Currently I have a 59 stock CJ5 with a Koenig 50 or 59 twin stick PTO with rear flange and front working winch. For simplistic purposes I’m planning to remove the PTO and winch in order to add a Overdrive. Given the year of the Jeep and that it’s the original winch what is your best guess on the tooth count on the drive gear? 29 tooth gear?

You'll need to pull the pto to check, that's the only way to be certain.

FYI there are adapter units that allow installation of a PTO on the back of the overdrive.

In case you didn't know, there's an adapter where you can keep the winch/pto and add an overdrive. What you have is pretty desirable.

I don't always have an extra $235 and skills to lengthen a pto shaft but... yes that's ideal just plan on doing that. Until then pull the pto off verify what you have order pto run an oil jug cover until the overdrive arrives. Save for pto adapter. Run 5 or 6 shifters.

Thank you. One part of me doesn’t want to lose it and the other wants to add a Warn 8274 that I have in its place. These older PTO’s can be very sketchy working it alone.

Checked in with Herm the Overdrive Guy. Not sure he is still in business unless something changed. Email and phone disconnected. Hope that’s not true or if anyone knows otherwise please pass along. Thanks

Herm is notoriously difficult to deal with but I have called him in the past...

I ordered a cluster and 2nd gear from him for a T90. I wound up having to send money via Walmart money xfer because he doesn't do credit or PayPal, and I'm out of checks. He acknowledged he got the money on Sept 8th, but I haven't heard anything back about shipping or whatnot yet. I ordered a synchro assembly from India because no one state side has the thing in stock, I placed that order on the 8th and it got here today. 5 days from order to delivery from half way around the globe.

Thank you. I actually got in touch last night. Apparently he has no help. Go figure.

I suppose you mean managing the controls safely. I prefer to think that one just needs to be methodical and safety conscious. I like them. A lot.

Yes exactly. I have a Ramsey on a 3B as well. Excellent winch just as you say carful with the controls.

If I had to guess, I would say since it's kind of early, 26 tooth. But you will have to pull the PTO to be sure. And another vote for keeping the winch.

Herm suggested to remove the Koenig PTO and measure the intermediate shaft. If 1-1/4” it would be a 29 tooth. Would the PTO have to be completely removed to get the measurement of the intermediate shaft or just opened up and moved to get the measurement? Thanks in advance
