I've got a 73 Jeep CJ-5 w/ 4.2 and the alternator bracket has cracked- well broken in two.
I welded it back together but it just cracked again along the weld- the metal is really low grade metal.
I can make a new one out of flat stock but would rather just buy one if I could actually find one.
Mine is mounted on the driver-side and everywhere I look I only see passenger side mounted ones.
Can anyone help me out? -Thanks

In 1975, the alternator moved to the passenger side for the AMC sixes. So you need to look for a part from a 1974 or earlier engine. You might try the AMC car sites, but those guys seem to value their parts rather highly. I suspect the nature of the steel is not so much a problem as its condition, with as much rust as is there. There is also J&W in Antelope CA, an all-Jeep yard that might have your part. I recall there was an all-AMC yard in Wilmington or San Pedro that you could try.

That number does not help you; it's not the PN. The Jeep PN is 3217213. This is the front bracket. The L-shaped rear bracket is 3217214.

That's cheating. I helped this post yesterday with the same issue, but now they're gone (again). PhotoBucket is a forum killer and those who don't know about the "fix" suffer. :(

what's an alternate photo host site- I'm using the chrome fix so I see them.
Also- no joy on the part hunt so looks like I'll be making a bracket.

tinypic.com may work well but personally, I would tread lightly. It is owned by photobucket. We all know how well that has worked out. Just my thoughts.
