Its a bit of a 'frankenjeep' - but that is fine. If it runs and drives and the price was right...enjoy it. Good luck with the paperwork - every state is a bit different with what is needed.

Isn't it showing tapered D-44 rear?

Definitely looks like a tapered rear axle. If there is a serial number on the frame that would definitely help/or hurt.

The body is definitely late 70 or 71, based on the fuel tank location, the rear axle could have been swapped at some point or it may be on an earlier chassis.

Post 15 has a picture of the Jeep from the side, look at the rear axle and you can see the nut on the end of it.

Should be on top of the frame about a foot back from the passenger motor mount.

The serial number was stamped into the top of the frame rail at the factory. It may be only the last 5 or 6 digits. You will likely need to scrape the frame top, and/or hit it with sandpaper to reveal the numbers.

I have found it takes a lot of wire brushing and young eyes to see the number. I also used my phone camera to take a pic and then zoom in to make it larger. It's a very tough place to get to and see. Much easier when you move your RF fender;)

You can see the numbers are right above the back of the curb side front spring.
