Bringing A 62 Back To Life...Maybe

So the tilt back dropped this off in my yard. Its a 1962 ish, I think. The VIN seems to think so.





First real build related issue is the bed, or No bed as it seems to be. I am pondering making a wood bed for the rear floors. On the bright side there is a gas tank under there. I may try to run dual tanks.



The rear wells are shot on the tops and drivers front fender has a good whack in it but overall I think it will make a good little jeep.

 

Seems a nice Jeep with many possibilities. A wood bed is a good idea, you can keep an opening to access to the fuel tank, fuel gauge.

 

I like the access to your rear tank. I fought one from the underside and that was a pain. Looks like the hard work is done. All ya gotta do is....

 

I should edit the title. After decoding the serial number I found that I have a 1960 Willys.

Brakes are back together and it moves. I need a little carb tuning and probably a fuel pressure regulator since it has an electric pump instead of the original mech one. Anyone know how much psi I should run? Im guessing somewhere in the 3-5 range.

I have decided against the wood bed. Instead I will make a steel one.

Where is the electric pump mounted? I'm going to need one of these on my extra tank.

 

Carter YF carb wants 2.5 to 3 psi maximum.
It matters.

New old doors and new old wheels on, I think it looks better. I cant decide to paint the doors green or the top white. And should I paint the wheels or leave them?

 

I have had red, off white and white wheels with that body color. For a start on this one I would go with a flat tan on the wheels. A solid wheel color will change the look a lot.

For the doors I would try several brands of camo OD paint to see which one is closest. Then go with that.

By the way you did good on the doors and it's coming right along.
