Does anyone have a pic (or just know) where the spare tire is placed on the 72? I see a U shape dip on the rear passenger side but I dont see much else.

    Thanks for any help!

It's the same as any other Jeep of that era - on the right rear corner. The only exception is the 1972 Renegade, with a solid back panel and rear mounted spare.

The dip is a vestigial bow pocket, from M38A1 military days. IIRC Jeep mounts a bumper for the spare there, to steady the spare.

Really, this location is not suitable for any larger tire than the factory supplied.

It is good for a standard narrow type, I never had a problem but better to have a mirror on the right side to remember that it is a little bit wider!

...or if the tires on the jeep are wider than stock. They rub the spare. Even if it looks like it will clear, it still might rub around turns as the suspension flexes. <sniff sniff> "What's that burning rubber smell?"
