Putting a new set of Warn Premium Hubs on a Dana 27. Did a Disc Brake Conversion, got a kit from R&P and did a two hole knuckle and tie rod flip. Bolting on the Warn Hubs, can not get the snap ring on the end of the axle, tried pulling out the axle with abolt, it is not coming out enough to install snap ring.

I thought I read some where that there was a larger race and bearing that can be used so you do not have to grind on the caliper for fit. If R&P used the race and bearing and it moved everything out, the snap ring would not work. (right?)

How important is the snap ring on the end of the axle? Can it not be installed?

You wouldn't be the first to not install the snap ring. As long as the axle won't slide in enough to disengage or just barely be engaged by the hub it will be fine.

You can leave it off. About half the Jeeps we saw at the Jeep dealership were missing the axle end snap ring.

I just had to take my lockout hubs off to pull the axles. when installing, does it matter what type of RTV you use? when originally installing, they come with a blue RTV if I recall correctly

I don't think it matters what you use. I just use whatever I have around at the time. On my D30 I used blue.

I used blue also. No problems or leaks a year later.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Originally they came with paper gaskets, no RTV. I prefer "The Right Stuff" or RTV Ultra Black but that is personal preference.

Used paper gaskets, no RTV. I believe in "The Right Stuff". Like I have said before, silicone caulk should be outlawed

The toothed gear that installs after the hub. One side of it is recessed. Does the recessed side go into the axle or out towards the tire?

I have a Warn hub in my parts box that I will take a pic of later if that will help.

Def put the snap ring on there. Thread a bolt into the end of the axle, and pull all the play out of it. That will give you enough space for the snap ring. That and maybe snugging up the hub a little more on the spindle.

You talking about the lock washer and nut set? If so, flat washer with a tooth out, nut, lock washer with the flap towards the knuckle, nut. Then the warn bolts into the hub, business end in. Then the snap ring. Then the nice pretty cap/selector.

Jeepstar are your warns all apart? I think that is maybe whats causing confusion. I think most folks install them all together and keep em all together. They are usually pretty greased up, so they wanna stay that way.

You might want to post a picture or two of what you are talking about.

To keep this info centrally located...does the gear with the recess have the recess pointing out towards the wheel?
