    More info on what you used for replacement hat channel? I've got the body off and am staring at this problem now scratching my head.

    Some have used rectangular tubing. Lots in the archive if you search: site:earlycj5.com hat channel replacement - Bing

    Your local HVAC shop might make some lengths for you. The one near me only has 16 ga steel and 22 ga galv in stock, but 16 ga would be fine for this.

    You can make some short lengths and weld it in. Construct it from 2 Ls and a piece of sheet, if you don't have a brake. It'd take some time, but would not be bad if you only had short lengths to patch. There's a lot you can do in sheet metal with basic hand tools and a few portable power tools.

    I have used the rectangular tubing for the CJ2a. I had a bunch of 1x2 laying around. Worked fine for me. I also sleeved the body mount holes so they will not crush when tightening down the body mounts.

    Sweet! and that is a great way to search. Gets me to what I need fast so I don't have to sift through everything with the words hat or channel in it.

    Love the sleeve idea. I still had some oak in place that hasn't rotted for now. Benefits of living in the desert I guess. But eventually it will go I am sure.

    I actually had most of the oak left in the hats. I was quite surprised. Channels... not so good of shape. Removing mine was easy, i just took out the entire floor :)
