Quick Gauge Question

    What does the voltage regulator in the instrument cluster look like? Do I even have one?
    I have a 1962 F-134. New fuel sending unit, gauge works fine.
    New temp sender but gauge does not budge.
    Do I need a new Temp gauge?

    try grounding wire at sending unit . see if gauge moves

    It's built into the fuel gauge so if the gauge is working so is the regulator. Do you have that strap from the fuel gauge to the temp gauge installed? That feeds the regulated power to the temp gauge. As said by Twin2, try grounding the wire to the temp sender.

    With the ignition switch on check at the temp sensor for a voltage- it will be jumping around a lot if it's there- that's just how the regulator works.

    If it is there start the engine & let it warm up. urn it off, remove the wire from the sender & measure it resitence of the sender from the screw post to ground, should be something around 20 to 40 ohms I think.

    If there is no voltage there make sure you have your chiropractor on speed dial & then start checking things at the instrument cluster.

    OK, I grounded the wire at the sending unit .......Nothing happened.
    What does that tell a dummy like me?

    Two things. Either you have a defective wire from the temp gauge to the sender or you are not getting any voltage from the fuel gauge through the temp gauge. Howard pretty well spells it out in post #4.

    Just made a check. There is voltage at the sending unit. Removed the wire at the sending unit and
    shows 26 ohms.
    Bad gauge???

    Pretty much got to be.

    One thing to check though 'cause this is happening on mine-

    Does the needle move any at all? Right now mine is adjusted so when cold it's pegged below the cold mark- at operating temp the needle sits on the bottom mark, I've gone through replacing the sender twice before I figured out what was wrong. I'm going to have to the gauge & adjust it to indicate properly.

    Howard, no movement at all.
    I have seen nos gauges for sale that call for no voltage regulator on back of cluster. This is confusing because the voltage regulator is in the fuel gauge. ???
    Would that work on my '62?
