Rochester 2G won't idle and stalls if not partially choked

I forgot to ask about the hold down bolts for the carburetor. Any chance they have bottomed out and are not pulling the base down tight?

 

When you drove it did it seem to have plenty of power? Take your foot off of the gas and it just immediately dies out, or coughs and sputters and then dies?

 

Probably ok, it's just easier to verify and be sure of tightness with studs versus bolts.

 

I agree. Using the spray cans with a tube after that helps verify that circuits are clean and free since you can see the liquid go through it versus just blowing air and assuming. Brake cleaner or the like in spray cans is your friend.

 

That is why you spray yourself in the face ahead of time so you get that little issue out of the way already.

The dip buckets are a good idea but they get gross over time and you end up buying another...and...

I popped the $80 on the HF Ultrasonic Cleaner and it works wonders. You can just use water, soapy water, Simple Green or Purple Power (preferred, it doesn't discolor metal like SG does). It can heat up the parts and clean things in a couple of minutes (auto shut off) or reset and start again for a deeper cleaning. I cleaned my 45 year old carb and couldn't smell fuel in it...Almost drank my coffee out of it.

 

Or a baseball bat?

Yep. I've only bought one of these because of the reason you gave. It worked great but it's slow and now it's syrupy after I only used it once...Years ago. Plus if the little parts fall out of the basket you have to sift through the dark murk. I still have one on the shelf...Just can't seem to toss it because I'm too cheap.

Purple Power is my go to...You can dilute to suit. <--- Didn't mean to make them a slogan.
