Has anyone added heated seats when re upholstering their seats. If so how did they work out? Will be taking ours to mountain cabin so will be chilly certain times of the year.

Im curious if anyone has also.
I have some seats I got from forum member jpflat2a that I wanna reupholster in the next six months or so with heaters.
I would imagine they work just as well as seat heaters in any other car, except with low back seats.
I don't know if you have a setup picked out but I saw one kit that had fully adjustable heat not unlike the setup you'd have in a car's heater.
That is, it had the seat heat knob with a full arc, not just high, med and low on the switch face. Definitely gonna get a setup like that. I forget if those are potentiometers or not.

Winter is coming--it's an old Jeep--you are suppose to be cold! ;)

But a 4-1/2 minute video gives a modern car installation. Always nice to see the process.
There's a link at the youtube site to an Amazon source for the heater. Should be here-- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002... Just a limited position switch.

I'm sure this is a cheap system--and much in the video is not applicable, but part of the think-tank process.

Plenty of aftermarket generic seat heaters on the market. The carbon fiber versions seem to work the best as they are water proof.......low, medium, and high switching is the norm and easy to install if the seats are apart and being re-upholstered . Get the version that has a seat and lower lumbar heat pad........as the lower back is where much of the vitals reside that control body temp.
Under a $100 bucks a pair to do two seats.............. No reason to be cold in that tin can unless you enjoy pain!

My low back seats after the Re-upholstering...........

They are easy to do especially if they are getting new seat covers allready. The ones ive done that where aftermarket peel and stick to the foam cushion. Usually the pads are about 10-12" square

My suggestion. Don't use leather or either Naga or Durahyde. Then your butt won't get so cold.

Just wondering - is this possible with the old CJ generator?

Probably not, gennys are good for 35 amps, electric seats seem to use about 5 amps each or about 10 amps for a pair. If you've got any aux lighting or a thumping big sound system you'll be bumping into current limiting on cold dark quiet nights. :(

I would not recommend this with a generator or an original Motorola alternator. They're good for 35 amps and you could easily end up pushing the alt or gen to the limit.

Like Howard said, adding some lights to the heater, or sound, it all adds up. Eventually the battery is being drained faster than it can be recharged.

Manufacture suggests using an Ignition switched 10 amp continuous duty circuit to supply power to both seats.

They all seem to have a basic on/off switch. The modern factory has some sort of switch that when it looses power (ie. car turned off) the switch will not come back on the next time you turn the key on. You have to again push the seat heater button. I'd like to find that sort of hookup. Or is that modern computer controlled feature?

Can be done with a relay, I believe. Very simple.

Found the paper work on the units I used..........http://www.championseatheaters.com/content/about.html They do have separate switches for each seat that are Illuminated and can be either dash or seat mounted and also come with a 5-pin relay in the wiring harness.
