Has anyone installed the new throttle body atomic efi on a Buick 225 v6 jeep ? Just hoping for a solid option for this motor to finally replace the old carb. Thank you.

How about one of the old Holley two-barrel throttle body injection systems?

    nickmil In mothballs.

This does not answer the original poster's question which was asking specifically about Atomic EFI, not about Holley TBI.

Per the MSD Atom EFI installation instructions - Limitations heading, The Atomic EFI is not suitable for diesel, rotary, or odd-fire V6 engines.

I believe this is correct when controlling both fuel and ignition. I have read threads that date back 15 years where people have used GM throttle body systems to control fuel ONLY. When doing this an external crank trigger was used to trigger the ECM.

I guess it's back to the Rochester or a truck avenger for me when the time comes..

Bill usn-1, I'm confused and hope you can clarify for me.

You say, "Most EFI systems operate on the next cyl triggering. So it receives the tach signal from the ignition, modifies the timing and applies it to the next cyl firing. With odd fire you can not do that for obvious reasons." This I understand. You also say, "There is a large cap HEI distr avail for the ignition upgrade. No crank trigger required."

How does the addition of an HEI override the need of the ECM for an even fire signal? The HEI still uses the ignition timing sequence of the odd fire. Is this what the CNC adapter is used for? ie. a place to obtain an even fire signal for the ECM as apposed to a crank trigger? Thanks, always looking to learn.

Ok guys what is the big deal about the ignition, with megasquirt all is stock over the counter parts (fuel pump, TBI, all sensors) but the controller itself. If you buy any other system you have the same problem. You do not need ignition with megasquirt, it would be nice to have it, but its not necessary and will not make a lot of difference on these engines compared to stock electronic. A good MSD control, pertronix ignitor, HEI or even dual point is leaps and bounds better than the stock units that came on these motors and is all you need to work well with your megasquirt system. If you do this setup just build you a separate controller to keep as a spare, not a big issue. To many people over thinking this setup.
And yes from my reading if you make or use a crank trigger setup for an oddfire you can use ignition control but to me its not worth the trouble.

I wonder if it would be possible to make the conventional HEI work with the 7 pin HEI module, and have spark control? Even if you couldn't put the 7 pin module under the cap, maybe you could slave the 4-pin module to an external 7 or 8 pin module?

Bill, feel free to post a notice concerning your services in the vendor forum- allowing "commercial" ads on the site is something we're constantly grappling with & it's always a fuzzy line but as long as you're participating by contributing knowledge & experience to the group we'll allow that.

Bill, does your system use a factory ECM without any firmware modifications? Everything besides the TBI adapter and wiring readily available (parts store / junkyard) and not requiring modification?

Just to clarify, there is custom firmware that needs to somehow be loaded onto the ECM? If your ECM goes bad while on the road, you can get a "new" ecm, but how do you get the proper firmware on it? Is this done over a USB cable?

    Bill,
You've got my attention... Do you have a link to folks running one of your systems on a 225 Dauntless? I've seen the kits offered thru your website; but references seem geared toward the Binder. Wish I would have known about your location a few weeks ago; I would have come by when visiting my folks in Anacortes!

Great information and thank you. I thought the Atomic might be a viable new (easy bolt on) option for the 225 Odd Fire. My mistake but great info on the other options. I will keep trying to make Rochester 2g work better....

I'll add some of my rational here...

I have standardized on the EZ-EFI setup due to it's usage of standard injectors and such. I also really like the fact that the units are 'self learning' - which is important for me as I run my rigs anywhere from 6K to 14K in altitude - no sending to someone to flash a tune. After fighting with helping others and their 'tunes' for those that can program their own over the years, this was a no brainer to me.
