i am doing research now and looking to drive 5 hrs to pick it up

    http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/3815051901.html

does it have the perkins or is it a massey engine like stated?
    (the valve cover looks wrong)

i know it is toast body wise but so is my other cj6

and the vin is wrong for a diesel

    so is it worth saving

yes i am addicted to buying rust buckets

  2. fb Wow that's a lot of rust. but I would love to have a Perkins diesel jeep and that roll bar probably wasn't cheap to make

Massey Ferguson uses Perkins Diesel engines, and yes the cj diesel was used in a slightly different form in tractors. So going by looks it would be a Massey Ferguson engine to a farmer.

Mesh a repro body with what good (if any) original parts are left and have one cool CJ6.

Be interesting to see the bell housing and any adapters. Those alone would be worth the price. Cool.

does the vin make since to any one else i need some help with that thw vin is 57748 24077

for a diesel it should the 3rd and 4th digit should be 10 or 75 or does that not matter?

the reason i want this is i need to find a jeep for my buddy who just had a heart transplant last year and las weekend i took him wheeling but he is hooked and i would buy this one and restore it for my self and then i will hand by buddy the keys and the title to my 65 cj6 that needs body work/paint, tires and soft top and it is ready to go

I can't answer your question. But I can say if I had the $ and space, I would already have it.

    A CJ6 w/ a diesel?! Very nice! Go get it! I've got a '56 CJ6 w/ a running F134. I'll trade you engines, straight across, for that junky old diesel setup. ;)

There was a VIN document on the site, but the link was lost when we moved from .com to .net. Maybe somebody has a copy...

There should also be someone on here that recognizes the Perkins diesel engine that was offered by the Jeep factory. I've seen these Jeeps up close, but it was too long ago. However, the engine plumbing looks home-brew to me. If a Massey-Ferguson, it's definitely not a factory diesel.

A factory Perkins CJ-6 would definitely be worth saving, even in its present condition.

FWIW it appears to have a ventilating windshield. ;)

The number of Perkins Jeep engines I have seen could be counted on one hand, but that valve cover appears to have a few too many ribs according to my somewhat faded memory.

    Says 1955-1963 CJ6 with Fhead

    57748 is a cj6
    57758 is a cj6 Diesel
    57548 is a cj5

IF it was a later CJ6 from 64-71 with a diesel it would read 8475.........

While there's alot of cool info at the provided link, the Perkins in that CJ-6 is also a transplant and likely a 4.203 and not the 4.192 that was used in the jeeps. The giveaway is the angled injectors. The 4.192 injectors are straight up and down. Not good for reference in this instance. CJ-6 diesel Vin from 61-63 started with 57758 and from 64-?? was 8410. Both were followed by 5 sequential digits starting at 10001 and ending with however many were built until end of production.

    4.192 in CJ-6-
