    nickmil In mothballs.

Very early CJ-5 it looks like from the pics. The faux battery box cover and flat spots are leftovers from the M38a1. The flat spot is where the M38a1 had the driver's mirror mounted.

Long as it's a '64 CJ-5 tub it certainly should...

Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like Inside the cowl battery box? (yup, I dug up an old post again)

There's no box on the early CJ's, just the fixed in place cover.
The box on the M38A1 is just a big box that goes down a foot or so-that's where the batteries were.

Figured that was the case. googling "M38A1 battery box" got me what I was looking for and now makes me wish I had that extra storage compartment on my Jeep.....and makes me wish PO hadn't done a shoddy job filling and covering what was there.

figured I'd add what I found in case anyone else is curious.

My 1961 tub has the same and I have been wondering if I could not add the military jeep stuff in there. I am guessing it has been done before

Wow, those are really deep. I thought Doug was exaggerating at a foot deep, but apparently not...

So somebody needs to post up pictures of their early tub modified this way!!! My '57 is itching to have recovery gear stored there :)

if you utilize the M38A1 battery box, you will lose the interior glove box space.

Sounds like a challenge to figure out a way to have both....or at least most of the battery box to use for Other gear....And a glove box....maybe If i run out of actual Necessary mods and resto I'll tackle this one in the future.

That is the reason the M38A1 tubs had the glove box to the left of the steering wheel.
Maybe if you were to insert an M38A1 dash into your pre-'66 tub along with the battery box on the passenger side.
